Funerals of two soldiers killed in Mali held with full military honours

The funerals of the two soldiers killed in Mali recently, were held with full military honours today.

The funeral of Major H.W.D Jayawickrama of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) was held in Polonnaruwa while the funeral of Sergeant S.S Wijekumara of 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) was held in Thalakolawewa, Polpithigama.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake called on the house of Sergeant S.S Wijekumara's at Polpithigama and paid his last respects. He later attended the funeral of late Major Jayawickrama in Polonnaruwa. The UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Ms Hanaa Singer accompanied the Army Commander to Polonnaruwa and Polpithigama.
